MARY LEE SOOP

Mary Lee loved being a kid. It was with great trepidation and a wistful eye on the past that she entered adolescence and later adulthood. After maneuvering through the pitfalls of middle school and high school, Mary braved college, getting a Psychology degree from Rhodes College, and degrees in education from the Peabody School of Education at Vanderbilt University and Georgia State University.

Post-graduation, she was overjoyed to find herself back in elementary school, even if it was as a teacher. Mary combined her love of playfulness and adventure to engage students in regular and special education classrooms, thriving for 30 years on grade school energy and mayhem. Mary is a National Board-Certified Teacher in Middle Grades reading and writing. As a teacher, she developed a knack for telling stories that kids love to read by learning from her students.  She listened to their fears and reveled in their triumphs big and small. It wasn’t until she retired from teaching that she realized she had amassed a cast of characters perfect for helping students beyond her classrooms deal with life’s biggest challenges.

Mary Lee’s debut series takes readers on an odyssey through everyday struggles and unforeseen disasters, showing young readers that there is a hero in all of us.

Mary Lee lives in Huntsville, Alabama with her husband and two Shetland Sheepdogs. She has three adult children she encourages to hold on to their childlike wonder, and they, in turn, are passing this gift on to their children.
